It has A LOT of things to see. Visit it if you're interested in Hungarian art. Although you'll find big names like Cezanne, the majority is made up of (great) Hungarian artists. I had the luck to visit it during a temporary exhibition by Fortepan and another temporary exhibition on Surrealism. You can also skip the museum and just go to the temporary exhibitions if that's what interests you (the tickets are sold separately).

It’s maybe one of the best museums in Budapest. Everyone must visit it, the place is spectacular and the permanent exhibition is amazing. Also, the surrealist exhibition featuring Magritte and Dali is really interesting.

Beautiful pieces - the Fortepan exhibition was a particular highlight as it gave an intimate insight into the lives of Hungarians through the past decades. 50% discount for those under 26, but worth full price of admission. Only criticism is cafe sandwiches are too small.

Lots to see and learn. The staff are friendly. Wear comfortable shoes. There's a bit of a lineup around lunch or when it rains. Amazing view from the dome. It's unobscured, and I recommend that you check it out.

This museum hasn't impressed me, an average citizen with little interest in history. In comparison, it's nothing particularly different to similar museums in other European cities. Poor investment in building maintenance.
