This museum took a lot of time and effort to put together and for that, my family is thankful. There is a lot of walking, we would encourage more bathrooms to be made available to the public. The videos and pics were amazing to see and review. The food was great! I don't think it would have mattered what day of the week you came, this place; is busy, full of lines, and it is a lot of information to get through. Well worth it, definitely plan a week to just get through all the sections. Thank you for taking so much time to tell our story and present our culture and show our people. Truly an amazing job well done!

What a wonderful experience. This is my second trip with the kids. Honestly, it will take you 2 days to completely see and absorb most of this museum. It's so enlightening! New items have been added since our last visit, that was a plus. If you want to see the Emmet Till exhibit I suggest going on a weekday. The line can be very long. This trip, we took my Aunt Linda (70 years old) with us, it was different seeing the exhibits from the point of view of someone who lived during much of segregation and the major policy changes our country experienced. Her input shed light on some unanswered questions. It's a lot of walking so prepare. Great experience for all ages, races, and ethnicities. A must see.

This museum was incredible. There were so many exhibits that were set up well: we started at the top floor and worked our way down. The exhibits about music, film (showed clips of some famous shows, and sports were among our favorite. We also enjoyed learning how to step dance at one of the exhibits. We enjoyed the exhibit about war heroes who were posthumously awarded medals, as their race prevented them from receiving while alive. Overall, the entire experience took a bit over 2 hours to enjoy, though we could have easily spent another hour.

This place is simply amazing. You must experience this to get the full understanding. Photos and videos won't do it justice. Started the tour in the basement beginning with the right of passage. It seemed to me the air was very heavy in this space that takes you through the slave trade, very somber and emotional. As you come up higher to the upper floors of the museum you can feel the air get lighter and your mood seems to change with the evolution of this black experience in America. We came during off season in October so the crowd was light and we got to the museum at 10am no waiting. Half way through the tour we stopped for lunch and I tell you those shrimp and grits are worth the whole trip. Great place great food and if I could give it 10 stars I would.

You have to visit this museum. Its history, culture and an experience. I literally was in the museum for hours. So much to see, take in and process. I highly recommend everyone visit this museum. I will be returning for another visit. I'm sure I missed something. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and try to get tickets. There were lots of people in there but i was able to move around with no issue.
