Stopped here along a hiking trail. The garden, shops and castle are beautiful. There was an outstanding no dig vegetable garden with produce used by the restaurant. Loved it. Shame that the trail itself had poor instructions causing an additional 3 mile detour to resolve on top of the 12 mile route meant we didn't get a chance to stay long.
Gardens are good but can be a bit too much. Loads of places for a picnic and some good walks available. Two cafes mean ample choice for food and drink options plus the obligatory plant stall. A tower to climb and some interesting people and history to learn about.
The garden at Sissinghurst Castle is lovely including formal gardens in 'rooms' and less formal spaces. The borders are crammed with beautiful plants, there is also a vegetable and cutting garden. There is a coffee shop and plants/gardening sales area at the site entrance and a restaurant nearer to the garden. Although it was busy the day we visited we had no problem getting a table for lunch, the food was lovely. There is also the usual NT shop.
Sissinghurst is a lovely place to visit. Of course the gardens and the few rooms available to view are very well maintained. The volunteers are very knowledgeable about the objects and the history of the house. It is a beautiful, serene setting to spend an afternoon in.
The gardens are lovely all year round, and the estate walks are great. Some nice events through the year. Good cup of tea, what more can you ask for?
