Largo do Carmo, 1200-092 Lisboa, Portugal
One of the best places in Lisbon. Incredible scenery (a Gothic church that caved in during the great quake of 1755, now mainly an elegant series of arches) and few selected but very interesting archaeological items. Oh and look for the museum cat... Entry fee is 5€.
I only had a few hours between flights but that was enough time to go check out these magnificent ruins. 5 Euro was the price of admission which includes the museum next to it in the reconstructed part of the church. There are some great relics and tombs inside definitely worth visiting. Open everyday except Sundays.
A rare opportunity to clearly see the interior of a Gothic cathedral. Lisbon's great misfortune from a devastating earthquake in 1755 becomes a wonderful.opportunity now to relate the past and showcase a splendid building. One can also glimpse even farther back in the area's past via an excellent exhibit in a hallway off of the convent, showing archaeological finds.
Worth visiting, especially at night. Its raw beauty is even more magnificent with the illumination contrasting with the black sky. Unfortunately, the only way to get there after 7 p.m. is buying tickets for the multimedial show (the tickets are 15 EUR). The show isn't bad, but a bit boring, in my opinion. It's about history of the church and the city, the holograms projected on the walls are dancing and singing. It lasts 45 minutes, and you have to sit on the small cushion on the floor.
Well worth a stop here, very interesting atmosphere in the Halls of cathedral. Interesting archeological collection spanning more than 4000 years even though it's not a huge exhibition. Price paid 5 Euros per ticket.
