Poros is a small Greek island in the Saronic Gulf south from Piraeus and separated from the Peloponnese by a 200-meter wide sea channel, with the town of Galatas on the mainland across the strait. Most activities on the island concentrate in Poros Town, the only village that has all the facilities. The first things to notice as the boat enters the port are the elegant Neoclassical houses and the Clock Tower, on the highest hill of the town offering a great view to the region. It was built in 1927, is visible from every part of the island and is the jewel of the town.

In the north part of the island, there are the ruins of Poseidon's Temple, which was built in 520BC. The main Temple was built in Doric style, though some of its columns were Ionian.
