Enjoy a hearty reindeer ride through the dark and snowy wilderness to a warm Kota on top of a hill. The Kota is the perfect location to see the amazing Aurora Borealis and grill sausages over the fire. Complete the tour with a visit to a reindeer farm where you can feed them some local lichen.
In the evenings, at the best time to see the Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis, we organize reindeer safaris. We will pick you up from your accommodations in the city center, or the Santa Claus village, and take you about 20 kilometers away from Rovaniemi city center, Lapland, Finland to a place called Mount Porovaara. We will take a reindeer ride of 30 minutes through the dark and snowy wilderness.
The ride will finish at a warm Kota, where you can grill sausage by the fire and taste some lovely, hot juice. Kota is located on top of a hill next to the river Kemijoki, at an excellent place to see the northern lights. The views open towards the northern sky where the aurora borealis mainly occur. There´s also a special station next to the Kota where it´s easy and comfortable to look and take photos of the northern lights.
After the reindeer ride and snacks by the fire, we will visit a fenced area where dozens of reindeer live and pasture in the winter. Everyone can pet reindeer and feed them with lichen. Lichen is their favorite and very important food in winter and some of them cannot resist it but will do anything to get a piece of it.
