Beautiful lookout. A good hike and windy. Be prepared. Lol Often you can see whales, seals and sea otters.
The foundation that runs the place has done a solid job of keeping the lighthouse itself clean, the entire grounds well-groomed, and even maintains a nearby forested trail for those looking to make a walk of it (you can also skip the trail and drive straight to the lighthouse parking). Beware that Google Maps is currently misdirecting to a now-closed back entrance to the lighthouse grounds. The true entrance is via the small city of Shirley; slow down while driving through otherwise you'll miss the small sign. If the lighthouse area is foggy, come back later - there's a great short hike nearby to the gorgeous Mystic Beach (accessible from the Juan de Fuca Marine trail / China Beach parking area).
It was a light house. If you like it these kind of things you will like this. I like this kind of thing. Mainly because I sing light house as to the tune of brick house.
If you like lighthouses to look at, then go. There is no access to the beach though.
You can park in the lot a few minutes' walk from the lighthouse, but there is also another parking lot a little further up the road (you'll hit it sooner than the closer one) adding a nice little (or slighter bigger, if you take the long route) hike to the visit. Which I recommend. Also, Shirley Delicious is at the top of the road. So all in all there is the potential for a cool little outing.
