Our favourite places for afternoon tea

We’ve been going for afternoon tea since way before it was a thing...here are our top recommendations.

Cat:We’ve been here many times because it’s so good. Definitely the prettiest afternoon tea in London and it also tastes as good as it looks. They replenish your plate generously and even give you a cute little box for leftovers.

Cat:Another favourite of ours, this is a great option if you want something more traditionally ‘English.’ The food is delicious and be sure to browse the food hall downstairs afterwards.

Cat:This is the second branch of this Insta-famous cake shop and we prefer it as there’s more space and you don’t get the crazy queues. Their cakes look and taste beautiful, the floral displays are spot on and everything is extremely photogenic. Plus if you walk down the side you’ll find a pair of our favourite pink front doors just down the road.

Cat:It looks like you’ve stepped into your granny’s living room but the cakes and scones are superb (if you like cream cakes this is your place!). Plus it’s next to Kew Gardens with it’s Insta-famous Temperate House.

Cat:The prettiest (and yummiest) eclairs in London, they are delicious to look at and to eat.

Cat:Visit their Temperate House with it’s beautiful spiral staircase and amazing views. Plus on your way, be sure to go to Kew Green where you can find another of our favourite pink front doors (with pineapple door knocker) - you have to look closely to find it though.

Cat:A beautiful exterior (and very tasty biscuits), you might need to go at a quiet time of day as there’s always an annoying van or car parked outside ready to get in the way of your shot. 😂

Cat:Perfect for pink front doors and houses - check out St Luke’s Mews (where our cover photo was taken), the pink house at Pottery Lane, Denbigh Terrace and Lonsdale Road for pink front doors.

Cat:The most beautiful flowers. They’re quite particular about you taking photos there as I imagine they’ve been overrun by Instagrammers, but you should be fine as long as you don’t do any sponsored posts using them as a backdrop.

Cat:Very photogenic exterior, and down the road from the pink wall at Bourne & Hollingsworth.

Cat:If you’re in London in May (a great month to visit), come to Chelsea (especially around Sloane Square) during Chelsea Flower Show. The area is full of beautiful floral displays and a lot of the shops participate. Also walk down to the area around the original Peggy Porschen in Belgravia for ‘Belgravia in Bloom.’

Our favourite restaurants

Place
Petersham Nurseries Teahouse
Cat:In the summer when the weather’s nice we come here all the time. It’s more low key than their restaurant next door, and they don’t take reservations so be prepared to queue on a sunny weekend. The food is lovely, mostly plant-based and wholesome. Plus it’s great for celeb spotting if you’re nosy like us - we’ve seen everyone from Scarlett Johansson to Zoella and former prime minister David Cameron!

Cat:Probably the most photogenic restaurant in London, they have the most amazing (usually floral) displays on their exterior. Plus the food is good too, we especially love their breakfast.

Cat:If you like pink you have to visit this place! The interiors (and exterior) are dreamy and it’s the perfect backdrop for a photo. We’ve only recently got round to trying their pizzas and they’re yummy.

Cat:They do the most amazing salads and very photogenic cakes - our favourites are the lemon merengue pie and strawberry tart.
