See the volcanic landscape of Mount Etna, then stroll the hilltop town of Taormina on a full-day tour from Messina that explores Sicily’s remarkable landscape, architecture, and culture. You’ll have views into the Silvestri Craters, and time to take in Taormina’s ancient Roman streets, theater, and monuments with the guide.
After approximately a 1 hour and 40 minutes ride, you will reach the slopes of Etna, the highest volcano in Europe (more than 3.300 mt). During the tour, you will pass through the village of Zafferana Etnea that rises up on the southern side of the volcano. From here, enjoy the beautiful views of Etna and the wonderful coast below.
Then we will reach the mountain refuge Sapienza at an altitude of 1.900 mt. Here you will be free to visit the famous Silvestri craters, placed in a wonderful typical lunar landscape. These craters were formed after the eruption of 1892 and are named after Prof. Orazio Silvestri.
After approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of visiting the volcano finishes, head to Taormina. Here you can have a walk along Corso Umberto (the ancient Roman street of Valeria) and a visit with a tourist guide or on your own to the Greek-roman theater, the oldest churches and monuments, the most exclusive shops, famous restaurants, pastries, and ice cream shops to taste typical Sicilian specialties and sweets.
