Piazza del Mercato Nuovo, 50123 Firenze FI, Italy
After finding out about the Porcellino statue/fountain, I knew I just had to see it in person while in Florence. It was definitely a thrill seeing it with my own eyes. It’s a struggle trying to pose for a photo with it since it seems to always be surrounded by tourists, but it is nevertheless a must see attraction and don’t forget to rub its snout so that you’ll someday return to Florence!
This is a tourist attration worth the visit. It is free and fun watching folks rub the snout of the bronze boar. I had more fun watching people posing for selfies with the statue than I did seeing the actual statue. Also entertaining were people that would toss coins at the base of the statue, I guess for good luck and the enterprising gypsies scooping up the coins between begging for pocket change.
Rub its nose, put a coin in its mouth, make a wish, and let the coin fall. If it falls into the grate below, your wish comes true. Nobody told me what happens if it doesn't fall into the grate, but mine didn't. Hopefully I'm not cursed or anything!
Loved this stop on the self tour. It was beautiful and I could have spent hours here alone.
Nice place to visit in Florence. Make sure to google the boar story before. Makes it easier to understand...
