Whales & Puffins

On our whale watching tours you will have a very good chance to see some of the magnificent giants of the sea! The most common whale sightings in Faxaflói bay are minke whales, humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbour porpoises. Our expert guides will tell you all about the facts and biology of the whales, as well as adding in some fun stories. You can enjoy the beautiful views around Reykjavik and the surrounding areas on the way – so don’t forget your camera!

The adorable puffins live only a short boat ride away from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík. We go with our small boat named Skúlaskeið (“Old Skúli“) that is perfect for puffin watching since it has a shallow draught and therefore can get close to the small islands where the puffins live. Our guides are very knowledgeable about the thriving birdlife in the Reykjavík area.

09:00 departure: You will start by jumping on board our CLASSIC whale watching tour. When you arrive back at the harbour around 12:15 you will have few minutes to hop on board our puffin watching boat, Skúlaskeið, departing at 12:30. Don’t worry – if you miss it we will get you on the next available tour (14:00, 15:30, 17:00).

10:00 departure: For those that like to sleep in, you can jump on the 10am EXPRESS departure for whale watching to start with, getting you quicker to and from the whale watching grounds and back in the harbour at the same time, around 12:15 so that you can catch the 12:30 puffin departure.

12:30 departure: For this departure you can spend the morning exploring Reykjavik or checking out the museums in the harbour area and then hop on the puffin watching tour at 12:30 for one hour. You will be getting back at 13:30, ready for the 14:00 departure on our EXPRESS whale watching tour. The express tour returns to the harbour around 16:00-16:30.
