One of my personal favourite: a huge harbour surrounded by old embankments and highlighted by a working Faro lighthouse with many old buildings still around. Many inexpensive accommodations around yet dotted with many small shops, not to mention the hundreds of eateries of different styles, some along the waterfront, some in gardens, some on terraces and in great varieties though of course seafood plates are very commonly on the menu. Lots of sea-going activities around, and the waterfront are dotted by local musicians and craft makers.
Still one of the most picturesque, and stunning postcard-style harbours you’ll ever get to experience.. sensational sunsets and views, including of every day life. BUT, have tried several of the (very same-same..) tourist restaurants along the harbour and the food is generally very expensive, they don’t care about the quality and portions and are in my experiences just BAD. Go into the little streets behind the harbour and you’ll find much nicer places, food and service
Dined at a restaurant along the Old Harbour with my girlfriend a year ago. It was an amazing experience! The harbour was magnificent at night along lights on the shore. A highly recommended site!
A great place to visit if you are in Chania (or anywhere near). Lots of space, and old harbour, a lighthouse, fantastic architecture, lots of friendly people, good atmosphere, smell of a sea, many amazing yachts. You can take a walk even during full season and you still will feel comfortable and relaxed. Must see!
Nice small port of Chania. Many touristy restaurants offering Greek specialties throughout the day. The walk to the end if the breakwater on the opposite side of the port is worth the effort offering nice views on the old town and the sea.
