Hàng Ngang, Hàng Đào, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam
Loved the Old Quarter of Hanoi. So many things to do and see and not enough time! The lake is beautiful, there is plenty of shopping and some pretty spectacular temples. The markets are a must, the range of products for sale is astonishing. Some of them I did not even know what they were! Take some time to explore and get lost a little. A vibrant city with much to offer.
Despite the traffic chaos and footpaths you have to weave your way around this is a great place. Shops selling all manner of stuff, roughly organised into groups by what's on offer interspersed with an amazing variety of small cafes and restaurants. As you walk along you will find motorbikes suddenly dodging the traffic zooming down on you in one of the few wide and not so wide footpaths. Hawkers, mostly women, walk around with shoulder poles balancing two flat baskets piled with whatever they're selling. I could go on but you get the idea.
It is very convenient to travel around the old quarter. Most of the attractions are located in walking distance. Lots of food to choose from: those frequented by the locals and others targeted mainly for travellers with better ambience. Both are good so just choose the one that suits you.
The best area to hang around in Hanoi. You will need to spend at least 5 days there to enjoy most of what this city can offer. Many small great coffee shops and the best street food! Get anywhere with grab application. Bargain at shops for anything.
Lot of culinary choices, beer corner, cafes, and night market. In weekend you can watch some musical performances. Very lively. The minus thing is, not pedestrian friendly coz the sidewalk is used for selling things and motorcycle parking.
