But the topography isn’t the only diverse part. It’s a country of immigrants and is often referred to as a melting pot because of of the different religions, culture and customs that you can find within its borders. While the country is made up of small towns, rural countrysides and everything in between, the cities tend to draw the most tourists.
New York City is a fast-paced city with a lot happening at all hours of the day and night. The Statue of Liberty, One World Conservatory and Central Park are just a few of the best sites to visit. Boston is a smaller, more walkable city with a lot of history. Washington D.C., the capital, is full of federal government buildings and excellent museums. Florida has beaches on both coasts, and is home to Walt Disney World. Outdoorsy people will enjoy Rocky Mountain National Park, and the many nearby ski resorts. Rent a car and travel along California State Route 1 to see some of the most popular cities in the state and take a detour to Yosemite National Park. Although Hawaii and Alaska are not on the mainland, they are also worth exploring.
The climates vary greatly by region, so it’s important to figure out where you want to go first and then decide when to travel. Generally speaking, the northern part of the country should be avoided in the winter as it can get frigidly cold. However, if you are looking to ski, the winter is obviously the best time to go. The southern regions can get very hot in the summer months, from June to September. Autumn and spring brings pleasant weather throughout the country.
