Great beach. Huge sandy bay, cafe nearby for famous hedgehog ice cream, great rocks for climbing and plenty of space for bathing. So why the 4 star. Well the lifeguards on this bay tend to keep a small area for swimming in, due to tides and currents so thus can make swimming body boarding cramped at times. New field to park in at top of road is 4 quid. A good deal. Bottom car park often full. The bottom one near beach is Free after 5pm though.
What a truly special little beach and a great little cafe. Lovely rock pools and dramatic rock formations. Not much beach at high tide but still a sloping pebble area. Waves are fab and the sea is a beautiful colour here. Great for families and there is a bit of parking just off beach.
Strong currents so make sure you know how to swim. Beautiful caves and cliffs to explore. Me and my friends found a natural pool we could jump into form about 5-6 meters, doing flips and tricks which was great fun.
Smashing beach when the tide is out but becomes a small inlet at high tide. Short walk will take you to dramatic views of wheal coats and North coast. When the tide is right you can walk along beach to porthtowan but care should be taken if the tide closing in. If you fancy a treat, ask for a hedgehog at the shop in the car park.
Please don't come here, the parking is tight and the road there is single lane, you'll hate it. The vast beach (terms and conditions apply), the historic ruins, the wonderful caves, the amazing onion soups, and of course famous Hedgehogs are all strictly terrible, so I strongly advise you, for the good of me and my dog Lola, to please give this beach a wide berth ;)
