Average food. Space looks nice but it’s not more then a patio full of tables. One of the staff members is very rude.

Beautiful place with potential, unfortunately the potential is not yet fulfilled. The food is fresh and okay, but small portions and not seasoned at all. When asking for some pepper, we were ignored and had to fetch it ourselves. Our waitor was, to say the least, not very accommodating. E. G. We advised the toilet paper was finished and he said he only just checked it the day before although we were there in the late afternoon(??!). Such a waste for such a beautiful place and obviously, not a bad chef. The food was stingy and lacked love and dedication.

Very classy and well presented establishment, just off the main square which I think does it a favour. Don't get the kids running around outside! I had two tapas dishes, both lovely, both beautifully presented and a long island iced tea which, not as strong as my home ones... Was made very well and reasonably priced @€9. The place has a relaxed but smart atmosphere and I was made to feel very welcome. Pictured is my confit tomato dish, pricier @~€8 compared to the "bomb" croquet I had @~€3. The croquet, although nice, had a warm breadcrumb exterior but cold ragu inside... Not sure if intentional. I chilled and spent about an hour here watching the world go by and I give 3 stars based on them forgetting I had asked for the bill and the cold ragu thing. Not major faults but enough to miss out on a 4.

Terrible evening. This is the Emperors new clothes Unless you want to be shouted at and humiliated please do not dare to complain or comment on the poor items of food. So often a place opens and hype keeps them open for the first few months. I’m sure Bona Espina want to be great, but unfortunately they are a long way off this. Even with the terrible main course I would have still offered a 3 Star review but after the horrendous abuse by the ‘head waiter / owner?’ I have to demote this place to one star for terrible service. The evening started well. Even though the restaurant was empty on a Saturday evening at 9.30pm, the staff at the door were welcoming so we booked a table for a little later. We had a walk around the town and sat at our table at 9.45. The starters we ok. Best being the tuna tartare. The main courses were served. The wagyu beef was terrible - actually inedible. At €37 it should have been great. My wife and I had one end piece and one middle slice each and decided we couldn’t eat it. We waited for the the ‘check back’, that magic moment when a member of staff asks if everything is ok. Unfortunately there was no check back so we just left the wagyu and ate the pasta which was ok. When we were cleared we told the waitress how disappointed we were. That’s when it all kicked off. If I owned this restaurant I would have apologised, taken it off the bill, offered some kind of reduction or at the least said we were sorry. Instead we were just given the full bill. I very discreetly asked to speak to a manager or owner and was told that neither were there. I then talked to the ‘head waitress’ and she disappeared to the kitchen. After a few minutes the bill reappeared exactly as before with no apologies or explanation. Unfortunately a rather heated discussion took place with the newly revealed ‘I am the restaurant owner’ (see pic) who threatened to ‘call the police’, said ‘If we can’t afford it we shouldn’t have come in’, ‘This might work in your country but not here’ and added, ‘Are you drunk or something?’ Considering we had paid €30 for two weak gin and tonics and had drank less than half of an expensive bottle of wine I don't thank that we were drunk. Along with a host of other insults he threatened to call the police (something I invited) and told us to get out of his restaurant. This was very upsetting for myself and my wife. I had tried to talk to him. To give some kind of insight. If you look, you will see I love most places in Formentera, but tonight a ‘Mr Angry’ manger took over and the paying customer was made to suffer. To be accused of not being able to afford the bill and being drunk were the final straw. It’s coming towards the end of the season. Maybe they have made so much money they don’t care? I wish you could post videos here so you could hear the way we were spoken to. Unfortunately I can only post stills. But you’ll get the idea, and maybe searching for ‘angry manager at Bona Espina’ may enlighten you more. I hate writing 1 star reviews but when the service and food was so bad I think this community should be given the opportunity to go to one of the other great restaurants in this town.
