Take an unforgettable tour of Slovenia's Karst region known for its picturesque limestone landscapes and the world famous Lipizzaner horses. As part of this tour, you will also get to indulge in delicious locally-cured prosciutto perfectly paired with teran wine produced in the region.
Your first stop will be the charming village of Štanjel in the Karst region of Slovenia that extends from the Vipava valley to the Gulf of Trieste. The limestone allowed the water to enter the ground and thus created typical karst features - caves, chasms, karst springs, intermittent lakes, and karst fields. In the village of Štanjel, discover the beautiful castle and Ferrari's amazing garden, the best-known attraction of the village.
Karst is also famous for its cuisine, so the next part of the visit is reserved for local food tasting in a small traditional village. The most famous local food of the Karst region is prsut ham. There is no prosciutto in the world as tender and delicious as the Karst prsut, dried in the cellars of the old Karst villages with the help of the strong, cold bora winds. It is best tasted with its rightful companion, teran wine, a local specialty unique to the region. The wine comes from refosco grapes grown in the fertile red soils of the Karst.
Continue the visit towards Lipica Stud Farm, home of the world-renowned Lipizzaner horses, made famous by the Spanish Riding School of Vienna. You will have the chance to see these elegant horses in training. Nowadays, the Lipica Stud Farm is one of the most beautiful cultural and historical landmarks in Slovenia, its rich history reaching back to the year 1580.
