Included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Škocjan Cave system represents the most significant underground phenomena both on the Karst Plateau and in Slovenia. The beautiful Reka river dives into the caves and together they represent one of the largest underground wetlands in Europe. A visit to the region should not be missed.
We start by heading over to one of the local local taverns to try the all famous Karst air-dried prosciutto. To many, this is the best prosciutto in the entire world which when served with the local wine Teran becomes even more special as they compliment each other very well, which is served only in Karst region.
Next on, a short stop at Lipica, where Lipizzaner horses were first bred. It is also homeland of the white Lipizzaner (famous horse of the Spanish riding school in Vienna). For lunch we will visit Piran for an exquisite seafood meal. We will pass through the towns of Koper, Izola and Portoroz where it is great to relax or have a swim as it is located along the coast. Exploring this place is fun with its narrow streets and medieval houses.

Located on a 123-meter high cliff, this castle is a Medieval marvel which is the result of carefully thought human’s approach to blend nature with Medieval resources. Besides being a house for fairytale knights and home for bats, this castle is also used by the newly weds for their wedding vows.
