This 6-day break will give you the opportunity to meet the small fishing village of Cabanas de Tavira, ideally located by the Ria Formosa Natural Park. This excursion is for people looking for a relaxing stay in a near-tropical locale.
Cabanas Beach is on the island, so you'll have to cross with the help of the nearby local boats. Take the time to enjoy the village, visit the fort (only from outside) and have an enjoyable walk by the river along the village. Enjoy the beach and stroll around the countryside - there are several walking paths available.
Cabanas is located some 7km east of Tavira, at the beginning of the lagoons of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve. Cabanas derived its name from the huts (cabanas) that were erected during the early 18th century by the tuna fishermen to store their fishing gear in, they then eventually built houses for themselves as well and the fishing village of 'Cabanas de Tavira' was born.
