R. Me. Deus 4, 1900-312 Lisboa, Portugal
Great museum with loads of really amazing tiles. The church inside it is something else --- totally over the top decor. The panorama of Lisbon before the earthquake in tiles is amazing. Also some of the more modern pieces are really good and a nice contrast to the traditional ones. Not too costly which is good.
This museum is a great way to learn about the history of Portuguese tile making, so important to Portuguese culture. My family and I (kids and adults) had a lot of fun at a tile decorating class (call ahead or talk to the receptionist, if you arrive early). I would recommend downloading the free app (available for Android and Apple devices) ahead of time. The link to the app may be found in the Museum's website or type the name of the museum (in Portuguese) in the respective app store. After downloading the app, open it to download content in your preferred language (English or Portuguese).
One of the best museums I've ever been to. If you have any interest in ceramics then don't miss this museum. It covers all periods of Portuguese ceramics and presents them beautifully. The former convent also has one of the most beautiful chapels I've seen. Admission is an extremely reasonable 5€ or 2.50€ for seniors. Even if ceramics aren't your thing, if you like art museums this is a don't miss stop in Lisbon!
One of the most impressive places to visit if you like or appreciate art work. Great collection of tiles depicting religious scenes, daily life of the era and other artistic designs. The tickets are reasonably priced and I found it well worth the money.
An amazing and very educational experience! There was also a lovely restaurant in the middle with a wide open and really green eating space outdoors. The tiles themselves were stupendous!
Sharing is caring!
