Praça do Império 1400-206 Lisboa, 1400-206 Lisboa, Portugal
Don't you love it when two bucket list destinations are right beside each other! With careful timing you can treat your eyes and taste buds at the same time. Take a sneaky bite of the world's best custard tart whilst you admire the interior of this amazing space.
If you are interested in religious architecture or if you are just interested in visiting a masterpiece of gothic architecture... then I would warmly recommend to visit this place. The level of detail in any surface is in my opinion fantastic, both on flat surfaces and on the pillars. I noticed the sacristy on the left of the church closes at 5.45 (October, it might change during the seasons). Enjoy it!
If you can, get there about 10 minutes before opening as the line will otherwise be very long. If you have a student ID with you, you will pay less. It's best to come here in the morning as you avoid crowds of people and can take beautiful pictures without thousands of people on it. The ticket machine is easy to use. Not wheelchair accessible.
The Monastery is worth a visit. The structure of the building is quite impressive. The intricate design on the facade is worth seeing. The monument has the statues if the apostles and the former King of Portugal. You will see this on the side entrance of the Monastery that faces the Tagus River.
Beautiful building. We went late in the day and the queue was gone. The queue to get in the church was still long - maybe because it was free and it was sunday. The architecture here is amazing.
