R. das Ruínas 7, 3150 Condeixa-a-Velha, Portugal
This museum was amazing! We ended up spending more time here than we thought. Some of the best/most complete Romain Ruines I’ve seen and I’ve been all over Italy and the rest of Europe. There’s also an area with fountains - I recommend putting the 50 cent coin in the slot to turn on the fountains. It’s beautiful and they’re on long enough to really enjoy them (about 5 minutes). Didn’t go into the museum side, just the ruins. The cafe has good sandwiches.
Most western strong hold off Roman empire. Very informative. Easy Access by road. Still in process of unearthing and discovering. With local talent on expo.
The ruins themselves are interesting, but what's a real shame is that there's not much in the way of information around the site. What information that is there is about the architecture and provides little insight into life in the vicinity during its heyday. The audioguide app advertised close to the entrance way does not work, and has never worked according to the staff. The museum was far more engaging but perhaps could use an update a la Mary Beard #makingtheclassicsgreatagain
Amazing Roman ruins. With going out of your way to see. The floor mosaics are incredible!
Nice Roman ruins. If you’re in Coimbra and have time to spare, it’s definitely worth seeing. Very easy by car but I believe buses are also straight forward. Expansive lot with well-preserved ruins and an adjacent museum. The cafe is also very nice. But don’t come on a hot day or at least wait until the sun is low as this place will bake you. Bring a 50c coin for the fountains at the end!
