Starting point
Uteguiden Activity Centre Ålesund

This experience takes you out on a sea kayak through Brosundet, the heart of Alesund, and into the fjords, combined with a hike up to Mt. Sukkertoppen, Alesund’s local mountain with breathtaking panoramic view.

What to expect?

As adventure capital of the fjords, Alesund is the perfect base for outdoor activities. Kayaking & Hiking in these surroundings is therefore definitely worth your effort. The trip starts off in the activity center, which is located in the heart of Alesund. After a short safety briefing, receiving your necessary equipment, and plan for the day you will hop straight into your kayak and head out. Seen that the activity center is located right by the water you can start kayaking through the waters of Brosundet, the true center of Alesund, in no time. Secondly you’ll paddle towards the south of the city and around Slinningen. Slinningen is home to the world’s tallest midsummer fire. After that you will continue along the shore line of the island called Hessa until you reach the point where you can dock the kayaks and commence your hike. The hike up to Mt. Sukkertoppen, or Sugar Loaf Mountain, will start off through the forest but won’t take long before the forest reveals more and more of its beauty and opens up entirely for you before you know it. From that moment onwards you will continue over the broad ridge of Mt. Sukkertoppen with one incredible view after another. Once you made it to the top you will be rewarded with a 360° panoramic view that almost literally takes your breath away. Lastly on the way back you’ll go back to the kayaks and paddle your way back along the shoreline and into the picturesque city of Alesund.
