This volcano is a very very beautiful natural attractive, i really loved to hike, the views, birds, monkeys, wildflowers, this is one hundred percent recommended, i recommend to hire a guide service, i went about Holy week, it's a good date to visit, but the transport to the island is very full. I spend like 5 hours for the ticket. However do not miss this adventure.

Beautiful nature, you can climb it in 6hours, or take the half option to the mirador which offers a great view if Ometepe island !

The hike was one of the greatest experiences ever - once you get to the top you will be rewarded with some amazing tranquil lagoon full of birds and beautiful nature

If you make it to the top go on in the water is beautiful just be careful not to go in to far

I was disappointed with that hike. It all comes from the view at the top - there isn't anything to see and that's why I am giving 3 stars. I also had high expectations that were not met. I still enjoyed the physical challenge it was - it's only 5k each way but they are very difficult. I have a good level of fitness, I hike a lot, but the last slippery 3k left my calves sore for days. You still get to enjoy going up since you ear monkeys and funky birds and the presence of the guide (you need a guide to do it, you can't go on your own and it's a good thing) who taught us a lot saved the day. If you only have a short period of time on the island or in Nicaragua, I recommend you spend your time doing something else, but if you do have time, it's a fun to test our mental toughness!
