2307 Sannai, Nikko, Tochigi 321-1431, Japan
Rife with history and tradition, this shrine is a true national treasure. Words arent enough to describe the majestic air of this site.
My Japanese friend told me that this isn't the original Futarasan. The original one is a small not-so-fancy one right by Lake Chuzenji. We visited that first before coming to this one. I like the origins one better. It was intimate and not crowded. The energy of the space was so connectable. We were also lucky to be able to join a Shinto blessing ceremony that was arranged by a Japanese group. This Futarasan is fun and cheerful with many interactive stations built to engage visitors for blessings. It is better to go in the afternoon when the tour buses have driven away with the day trippers from Tokyo.
Simple, not too expensive and very pretty and calming. Good spot for meditation.
Another beautiful temple complex in Nikko with its own characteristics. The temple is easily approachable from the bus stop and you can spend hours there ... so mind the time :-)
Ì love its magic landscape and marvelous trees.
