It was very beautiful. Though I went in winter so I missed a lot of the gardens. However even what I did see of the castle and the grounds was really impressive. Well worth taking the time to walk around all of it (about 2 hours).
Historic architecture and a nice walk around the garden. There's not so much slope so it is good to come with elderly who could walk around in flat. You could have a look inside the castle but photos are forbidden. There's also a small sweets shop to stop by for coffee/Tea. I found the gate the most beautiful in the whole area.
It was a crazy, blistering hot day but yet this place drew us in and kept us going. It is incredibly beautiful and the main castle itself was honestly magical. Just stepping into it and hearing the floors sing was something I have never experienced before and probably will never again.
An extraordinary piece of history. The emperor's power ended (relinquished to the Shoguns) and was then restored in this castle. Buildings, walls and gateways from 1603 onwards. Wonderful interiors - the "nightingale floor", which sings as you walk due to the movement of nails and planks is strangely melodic. The painted walls, with pine trees, blossom, tigers, peacocks and birds of prey are beautiful (even though they are copies of the originals). There being no tigers in Japan, the originals were based on Chinese or Korean sketches and are, in some cases, an interesting interpretation. It was also believed that every 3rd tiger cub was a leopard and that is shown too. When the Emperor regained power he swapped the Shogun's 3 leaf symbol for his own chrysanthemum- both can be found. The gardens and ponds are beautiful. I recommend stopping off at the tea house for a tea.
A beautiful castle, with many buildings and pavilions within the complex. The suggested path will take you around the buildings and the small garden. You also can access to the interior of the palace, but you won't be allowed to take pictures. The wooden floor makes an interesting unintended sound while walking on it. Make sure to take comfortable shoes. The whole visit could take a couple of hours. Accessible for wheelchairs. Recommended
