3 Kyōtogyoen, Kamigyō-ku, Kyoto, 602-0881, Japan
You should definitely visit this place when you come to Japan! I prefer the Kyoto imperial palace over the one in Tokyo. It’s not so crowded and entrance is free, foreign language guides are available (including English) which seems to be rare in Kyoto even though so many people come visit every year. The garden is so beautiful and yet this is another place history lovers like myself will enjoy. But even if you’re not interested in Japanese history it’s a nice escape from the crowds in the middle of the town. Just take a stroll and enjoy the scenery
A really huge area with many different buildings. The palace itself, the servants 'and other civil servants' homes. Forest, ponds, plantations and more. It's a good idea to check the schedules carefully if you want to visit the palace, as it will be surprisingly early. Otherwise you can spend time in the area.
The imperial palace is located in the center of kyoto and it can be easily accessed by bus, subway or cab. The complex is huge and therefore you'd better plan for a specific visit. Most of the locations within the palace are free but are up to reservation. Check their website. Recommended
A really beautiful palace to visit! Not only is it not crowded with tourist, you get to see a lot in the temple grounds. Best of all it is free entry as well! The signs with the information were also all very well written! Overall a great experience and highly recommended to come and visit this place!
A tour of the palace of Japan's previous capital, Kyoto. It's very nicely maintained, with guided tours at 10:00 & 14:00, with English available. Signs are also in English, so tourists would have no problems understanding. Best part of it all? It's FREE!
