Visit Pompeii, the once prosperous Roman city frozen in time after Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, leaving this surrounding town buried for centuries. We'll end your journey with once-in-a-lifetime views of the Tyrrhenian Sea from Sorrento and a stop to taste what is arguably the best pizza in Italy.
Meet your driver at a convenient meeting point in the heart of Rome (details will be provided upon reservation). Once seated comfortably we depart for Pompeii, the once prosperous Roman city which met it's fate in October, AD 79 when Mt. Vesuvius erupted and the entire surrounding area and population was engulfed with burning pyroclastic flow and covered in ash. What you will see is a moment of terror frozen in time, death postures and ruins unchanged from almost 2,000 years ago. Your expert archaeologist guide will walk you through the ancient streets, whereabouts perfectly conserved ancient bakeries, shops, stalls, private and communal residences, public baths and brothels remain. You will see plaster casts of the unfortunate Pompeiians who were immortalized on that tragic day.
Upon conclusion of the guided tour, we make our way to Sorrento, gateway to the stunning Amalfi Coast. Enjoy once-in-a-lifetime views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and picture postcard perfect towns nestled into steep white limestone cliffs. During free time in Sorrento you will have plenty of time to explore the local shops and artisans as well as to sample Limoncello, a world-renowned specialty liquor made by local artisans from the organic lemons which can only be harvested in this region.
As your afternoon winds down, you'll join your driver once again for the return journey to Rome.
