Piazzale Cimitero Monumentale, 20154 Milano MI, Italy
One of the prettiest cemeteries I have ever visited in my life! Definitely worth a visit. There is something meaningful but also extravagant yet beautiful about remembering the dead in such a manner.
This building does not look like your typical mausoleum with it's raised center structure and 'wings' going off in either direction. The top gallery both left and right are filled with crypts, statues and monuments. This is were some of Milan's most note worth citizens are entombed with honor. There are a number of placards detailing information on the deceased and the artists who designed their final resting place.
I’d seen this place online and wanted to visit, but my husband wasn’t too keen. We popped in on our way out of Milan and I have to say I am very glad we did! It is very calm and peaceful to walk around and admire all of the different monuments. Didn’t take any pictures here as it felt a bit disrespectful, but it was lovely to see fresh flowers on so many monuments! Deffo must visit - even just for a half hour walk around
Heart-touching monuments. This place also shows that people in XIX century Milano used to show off in every aspect of life, especially life after death. Anyway, it is worth visiting. Walks between mausoleums from beginning of XIX cent and modern ones shows that we have not changed a bit since than, only means of communication changed.
I’m not a dark tourist and this the second cemetery I’m visiting while abroad. This is the most beautiful cemetery I’ve ever seen in my life. Definitely recommend.
