This is a guided tour to Tjörnes, which is known for diverse bird life and an incredible amount of fossils. The tour departs from Húsavík, Northeast Iceland.
This tour is recommended as an evening feature at the height of the summer, for view of the midnight sun and the birdlife. Framed by coastal culture and history from settlement, Tjörnes is also home to the most remarkable fossil layers in Iceland. These are sandstone layers which were formed at the end of the Tertiary period and during the Ice Age. From these fossils it is possible to trace changes in climate, vegetation and marine life from the beginning of the Ice Age.
The program varies a bit according to the season and time of day.
