This is a guided day tour from Akureyri, in the north of Iceland, exploring the wonderful Mývatn area.

What to expect?

Lake Myvatn area is by many considered the most beautiful and at the same time the most catastrophic place in Iceland.

We go east from Akureyri, cross Eyjafjörður fjord where the view is great towards the town, the ocean and the high mountain tops. After only half hour drive we arrive at the picturesque Goðafoss Waterfall where we make good stop before we travel for another half hour all the way to Lake Myvatn.

We explore the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar and walk on top of one crater and get a great panoramic views of the area. For the next hours we visit local nature highlights, such as Hverir Mud Pools, Mt. Námafjall, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and Grjótagjá, that is a part of the rift between the Eurasian & American Continents.

The lake area has served as a filming location for major Hollywood films and TV shows, such as Game of Thrones, Fast & Furious and Star Wars.

Before returning back to Akureyri we visit the surreal Nature Baths, located in the middle of lava fields and where you can soak in its relaxing geothermal lagoon.
