Explore the fjord with its falls and culture in this blended adventure of stunning geography and local customs.
Arnarfjörður is widely considered the most beautiful fjord in the Westfjords because of its diverse landscape, magnificent mountains and the impressive waterfall Dynjandi, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. Admire the highest mountain in the Westfjords, Kaldbakur and bathe in a remote hot spring pool surrounded by the beautiful Icelandic nature. The great waterfall Dynjandi is impressive, one of the most beautiful and photogenic waterfalls in Iceland. It is the largest waterfall in the Westfjords, about 100 meters high and up to 60 meters wide. A hiking path leads up to the central gorge of the waterfall, allowing visitors to come close enough to touch the water as it tumbles down into the depths. The nature tranquillity here is breath-taking.
Despite the isolation village Bíldudalur is vivid, with a high level of cultural life such as The Sea Monster Museum, which demonstrates tales of sea monsters that played a colourful role in Icelandic folk culture for centuries. Tálknafjörður used to be a base for Dutch fishermen and merchants, who named it Greenfjord. The tidy fishing village is known for its natural hot pots, the swimming pool and rich bird life on the white sandbank.
How do you name a country? We travel in the footsteps of Raven-Flóki, the first Norseman to sail to Iceland in the year AD 865. With three ravens for navigation to the uninhabited island, he came ashore in Vatnsfjörður, climbed up a mountain from where he spotted a large fjord, full of ice. Consequently he named the entire land: Iceland. The historical significance is monumental. We will be next to Raven-Flóki´s scenic point, which inspired his name-giving ICELAND.
