Private Reykjavik Food Lovers Tour - Traditional Icelandic Food

When doing a Private Reykjavik food tour , don’t you want to try out the truly authentic food from Iceland?

With our selection of local food treats you can check off a lot of things on your Icelandic food bucket list, and you sure won’t be disappointed with the quality of the restaurants we handpicked as our partners. The Reykjavik food walk is also good to get oriented in the old Reykjavik city center. All our guides are graduates from the Icelandic Tourist guide school but more importantly they know how to entertain as well as to educate.

The only bad thing on this tour is the fermented shark, but hey, its an adventure and what does not kill you makes you stronger and cooler back home ;).

One of the best things about doing a food tour is getting a sense of the history of the country while eating something delicious & exciting. You will also get tips on Food, Fun & Drink for the rest of our stay in Reykjavik so perfect as one of the first stops while in Reykjavik.

This is of course a private food experience so we can start off anytime from 11 am - 19 pm depending on availability of our guides and we recommend to do the tour during the weekends because then we visit the Reykjavik Flea market extra because there is an excellent food market there that 's fun to stroll through. The Flea market is open from 11 am - 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.

STOPS ON OUR REYKJAVIK FOOD WALK?

Our stops include a brilliant new Gastropub, the oldest restaurant in Reykjavik, the legendary hot dog stand, a favorite food market (if open), The authentic Seabaron down by the old Reykjavik harbor and Icelandic Fish and chips. Make sure you arrive hungry!

If you’re a food lover, then a leisurely stroll around the old Reykjavik city center, sampling traditional food from Iceland is going to be your kind of a foodie adventure. You will learn what the Vikings ate and how Icelandic people have survived harsh winters thanks to our special cooking and preserving methods and then how our cuisine evolved to present day as young chefs are doing modern twists with the special Icelandic ingredients.

Our Reykjavik Food Lovers Tour samples many different Icelandic dishes; both traditional classics and modern favorites. We know the best spot to get the famous Icelandic lamb soup (just like mamma makes it), The Icelandic lamb hot dog, Skyr (a type of yogurt) and a delicious Icelandic lobster soup that some say is the best in the world, but you will have to be the judge of that :). You can even try some fermented shark if you dare.

What is included?

This tour is all inclusive, expert guide and all food. You won't leave hungry!

What do I need to bring?

Please dress according to weather, in Iceland that means be prepared for any kind of weather! :). It's only about 2,5 km easy walk all in all and please come hungry!

Meeting Point

We meet up at Ingolfstorg Square in the center of Reykjavik by the two stone high seat pillars (Over 2 meters high), The square is at the beginning of Austurstræti (Austurstræti 1) and is squared off by the streets Aðalstræti, Hafnarstræti, Veltusund, and Vallarstræti. If you walk down Laugavegur (The main shopping street) please just continue all the way down until you come to the square always walking straight down until you can't continue further. On the Ingolfur square itself, you can see Kvosin a small grocery market and Center Hotel Plaza. We sincerely recommend map programs like Google Maps because the Icelandic street names can be quite tricky.
