North Iceland has so much to offer and to be seen all year around. This is a truly wonderful gem of nature. The area offers a spectrum of landscapes and backdrops including long and deep fjords, snow-capped peaks, moon-like lava fields, spring and summer lush vegetation, stunning waterfalls, outlandish geothermal sites such as numerous fumaroles, mud pots and hot springs, active volcanoes and astonishing crater formations. The birds and whales life is plentiful and rich. Summer temperature can be among the best in Iceland, and winters can be really magical after the landscape gets covered by layers of snow.
Following are the highlights of the tour:
Day 1 - Winter time - (September-April)
Head towards Borgarnes and from there to the wonders of the north. Passing Grábrók,stop at the seal museum, then keep on going to Akureyri, where you will be staying at Lamb Inn Hotel Only to keep on with our adventure searching for the northern lights.
Day1 - Summertime - (April-September)
Drive from Reykjavik to Akureyri: Your drive-guide picks you up and drives you all the way to Akureyri. Head towards Borgarnes and from there to the wonders of the north.Passing Grábrók crater, stop at the Seal Center at Hvammstangi, then continue to Akureyri.Once there, you go straight to Hjalteyri where you join a whale watching tour.
Overnight at Hotel Lamb Inn
For day one you can select to fly instead of driving to Akureyri - then the guide will pick you up at the domestic airport in Akureyri where you will join the rest of the group. This does not affect the whale watching tour.
The journey continues to Goðafoss, „Waterfall of the Gods“, Lake Mývatn, Skútustaðagígar pseudocraters, a small walk through Dimmuborgir searching for the yule lads and then on to Námaskarð, a sulfuric Martian landscape. There is no better way than to end the day in Jarðböðin bath, a relaxing hot nature bath.Arriving back in Akureyri in the afternoon a short city tour is on our schedule before dinner at Lamb Inn.
Heading towards Reykjavík to experience the magical Ice Tunnel in Langjökull glacier. Stopping at Hraunfossar and Barnafoss on the way back to Reykjavik.
