Explore one of the most beautiful areas in Iceland which have been a shooting location for many famous films including; the Game of Thrones and Fast and Furious. For at least 11 hours, you will be exploring the area around Lake Mývatn especially the vast landscapes and magnificent rock formations. You will also get access to the picturesque Goðafoss Waterfall, pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar, and the Grjótagjá cave.
This Lake Myvatn tour travels through areas that are considered by many to be the most beautiful and at the same time the most catastrophic places in Iceland.
We go east from Akureyri, cross Eyjafjörður fjord where the view is great towards the town, the ocean, and the high mountain tops. After only half an hour drive we arrive at the picturesque Goðafoss Waterfall where we make a good stop before we travel for another half hour all the way to Lake Myvatn.
We explore the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar and walk on top of one crater and get a great panoramic view of the area. For the next few hours, we visit local nature highlights, such as Hverir Mud Pools, Mt. Námafjall, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and Grjótagjá, which is a part of the rift between the Eurasian & American Continents.
The lake area has served as a filming location for a number of major Hollywood films and TV shows, such as Game of Thrones, Fast & Furious, and Star Wars.
Before returning back to Akureyri for your flight back to Reykjavík we visit the almost unreal Nature Baths, located in the middle of lava fields, where you can soak in the relaxing geothermal lagoon. The entry fee is not included in the tour price but can be added upon booking or paying in advance on site. We stop for at least 1 hour at the Nature Baths.
