Embark on an exciting tour of the rarely explored grounds of Askja. Experience a sensationally scenic drive through Icelandic desert, as you venture over rocky roads and craters in a remote exploration of the virgin lands of Askja. You will have the full attention of our professional guides as you take in the picturesque views of this magnificent landscapes and enjoy outdoor fun like taking a deep in the warm waters of natural baths.
From Lake Mývatn, we take the road towards the Hrossaborg crater, where we turn on road F88 (a gravel road).
We will then cross the rivers Grafarlandaá and Lindá and make a stop in the Herðubreiðarlindir nature reserve (nearby mt. Herðubreið).
Later, we will head to Dyngjufjöll, to see the Drekagil canyon, and then the Askja caldera.
From the parking by Vikraborgir (craters), we take a walk to lake Askja and the Víti crater (about 2.4 km long).
During summer 2015, we changed our usual itinerary and added a visit to Holuhraun, the new lava field from the 2014 eruption.
Finally, we return to Mývatn.
