Like all gas stations in Iceland, I had a very simple and perfect experience. These negative reviews are from people who don’t seem to understand how gas stations, pre-authorization charges, or pending charges work. 1. Go to pump. If you need a different language, press the globe button, click the flag of your choice. 2. Insert a credit card, if from the USA be sure to call your provider ahead of time and set up a PIN. They may say this is only for “ATM cash advances” but a PIN is standard in Europe and required for Iceland gas stations. You will not be charged a cash advance fee. 3. Select how much gas you want OR SELECT FILL UP!! This is the easiest way to fill a rental car in one simple transaction. 4. This is where people freak out. The station will then pre-authorize a charge of 25000 ISK. (approx. 225 USD) This will only be a pending charge and falls off in a few days. You are then charged for the actual gas you use. 5. Pump gas. You are then charged for the actual gas you use. It’s that simple. When you get home decompress for a week and look at you credit card again. Poof pending charge of 225 $ is gone. I filled up at three different gas stations in Iceland and this process was the same for all.
They never understand English.
Very friendly people
