I visited the centre with my wife and although she is not a chess player she really enjoyed the visit. You will learn about the relationship between Fisher and Iceland and the 1972 world championship against Boris Spassky. They have very nice memorabilia about the event. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area (and had enough of “Fosses”. Fisher is buried nearby if you want to pay him respects.

Maybe for big chess fan? It’s really small, just a room with some books, pictures. I think there’s an area you can play chess in, but since none of us plays chess, this isn’t the place for us.

Small, but nice, museum describing the 1972 world chess championship and Bobby Fischer's subsequent problems with the US government that the Icelanders ultimately rescued him from by giving him Icelandic citizenship. In our case enthusiastically described by a very knowledgeable curator. Visit his grave just outside the town after this.

Serene experience, greatest chess player resting in a remote corner of the planet.

An hour outside of Reykjavik, a must see for any chess fan. Great little place off the beaten path but well worth the drive. He is buried at a church nearby if you want to make the trip complete.
