Travel back in time to British colonial era Corfu, and explore the royal palaces of the princes. Go off the beaten path through traditional villages, Mediterranean olive groves and lush vineyards in the Corfiot countryside.
The footsteps of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and many other royals will lead us to Mon Repos Palace. After following the road leading out of town, soon you are in the beautiful dense Corfiot countryside, driving through traditional villages, olive groves interspersed with cypress trees, and vineyards and fields carpeted with wild flowers and shrubs.
Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Kaiser William II of Germany will lead us to the well-known Acheilion Palace. The palace is located in a place of mesmerizing beauty with the Corfu coast down below, which still has the jetty from where the Kaiser would embark on his pleasure cruises. The Palace is not only renowned for its classical features, but also its impeccably groomed garden. Legend has it that the Empress fell in love with Corfu, so much so that she ultimately decided to build a residence that she could call her own. Empress Sissi was also captivated and awe-struck by ancient Greek legends and mythology. Her favorite was Achilles to whom she dedicated the palace. The palace garden is replete with statues of Greek gods and goddesses that make for a truly mythical setting.
Our ride will continue to the top of Mount Pelekas, the location of Kaiser’s Throne, which has a 360 º panoramic view of the island.
