Heraklion 712 02, Greece
Really nice, the walkway all along the ocean, about a 25 minute walk to the very end one way. There are benches along the way, places to get water, and old style bathrooms with no toilet just hole in the floor for if you have to go that bad😁 beautiful views all around
I love the history and the view of the city + sea, however I found a lot of basic info to be lacking. There were plenty of text blurbs all over inside detailing historical battles and found shipwrecks, but I couldn't find any info on how the fortress was used in the past. I wanted to know what each of the rooms were, how they've been used over time, in what year was the fortress last used, etc. Maybe a guided tour would have been more informative, I just wish that info had been on the plaques.
Very impressive middle age fort. Still strong and maintained. Definitely must visit in Heraklio. You can walk the narrow wave barrier hundreds of meters into the sea to get a nice views back to the city and main port.
Only 2 € (cash only) and considering how much time we spend here well worth it. Gives a lot of information about the history of Heraklion and the various occupations over the years. Also great view of the sea and surrounding area!
Nice scenery and renovated harbor entrance fortress. You can truly visualize history playing out when inside.
