Mavrokordatou Alexanrou, Rethymno 741 00, Greece
If you grow up in a place, you stop noticing such monuments at a young age. After living some years abroad, you start appreciating them more when you visit it again for holidays. Would say rethymno as a city has quite the attractions.
The Rimondi fountain was built in 1626 by the city''s Rector A. Rimondi. It covered part of the city''s water needs and it is located in the Platanou square, which was then the centre of the Venetian city. It has three water basins, three lion shaped water exits, and three columns crowned by Corinthian capitals bearing a Latin inscription. Today the fountain still springs water through the three lion heads.
Lovely part of Rethymno, it's a strange part but in a nice way , for me it's in a busy area lots of cafes, shops etc but It always feels so calm here . It's very peaceful and at times you'll find the odd person playing a musical instrument. As you can see from my pictures we had rain in July, that seemingly doesn't happen very often but plenty to see and do anyway.
The Rethymnon Old Town is very interesting and lovely. I really liked the narrow streets with their many shops and peeks of old architecture.
Why? I hope you don't visit just to see this. Ice cream shop next to it though has lovely ice cream.
