For a temporary set up it was very well laid out. Everything was clearly labelled in both Greek and English. As an absolute beginner I did find some descriptions a bit unhelpful as I did not have the terminology required. All told though for 2 euros it was a fascinating look into the long history of the island.

Pictures are NOT allowed in this museum ! and the staff is very strict about that ... even unpleasant ! Schedules are not respected : some afternoons it's closed at nap time ! There is someone but you are told to reassemble later ... and later it is closed ! Try in the morning, cause the museum is open (no nap in the morning). Museum objects are VERY interesting (5 stars) ... but the behavior of the staff is bad (1 star : especially a man). When we made thousands of miles to visit a country, it's unpleasant to have to return 3 times to visit a museum !

I took the time to read the explainations regarding the different part of Rethymno and the Cretan history, which talk about the evolution of the civilization from the prehistory till the Venitian era. Nice reading and artifacts. Sure it takes more than 10 minutes to visit. 2€ for a museum..? Despite being a bit little, it's really worth it..!

Cracking one room museum, covering neolithic to C16. Delightful pieces from Rythminon and the surrounding area.

Shows the time path of Rethymno greatly. but, i wanted to have a bit of interactivity. Totally recommend this place.
