Boulevard des Arènes, 30000 Nîmes, France
I'm an artist/historical artist, this place is quite simply beautiful a place where history comes alive! And the help from the staff is fantastic, my wife is in a wheel chair this didn't hinder her appreciation of this marvel. Graham hodgson
How can you not give 5 stars to an almost 2000 year old building? There were bleachers set up down in the arena for the musical events that go on all summer so that took a little bit away from the imagining the gladiators ! We just missed Elton John 😖. It is not as big as the Colosseum but even so just imagining the screaming fans and the terror on the floor is remarkable.
It's an amazing historical piece of architecture but really there's no real engagement during a visit there. You can take the audio tour but that's about it. There are a few signs on the walls that are interesting and you can walk through the shop but you can't help but feel that this place is being run by lazy people who aren't really interested in trying to bring it to life for visitors in a way that it could really excite.
Paid 10 euro each to visit. First, there is a large white tent in the arena. Second, there are rickety wood/metal benches on all the stone steps. Third, the audio guide only is for trying to help you imagine life as a gladiator, no info on the building of the arena. Don't waste your time or 10 euros.
Great meal, specialist in muscles, I noticed quite a few locals eating there which is a good sign. Also the owner offered me a top up of more muscles, which I greatfuly accepted!! Great view people watching around the ancient arena, in all a lovely evening out with the family.
