Experience the beauty of Finnish nature, and take a ride on Icelandic horses through Nordic pine and spruce forests for a chance to spot reindeer and other local animals in their natural habitat.
From our unique and protected historical location on the lakeside, this two hour trail riding tour takes us through scenic landscapes in the heart of Kuusamo’s wilderness. The area around our farm is ideal for horseback riding. We are surrounded by beautiful arctic forest wilderness and we have a good chance to see wild animals e.g. reindeer. On our tours, you’ll experience Finland’s nature at its best. Our trails go through typical Nordic pine and spruce forests and small paths will lead us to remote lakes, swamps, hills and forest fields. During the ride, you will also experience Icelandic horses' own unique gate called tölt. They is wonderfully soft to sit on and easy to ride even for beginners.
The Icelandic horse
The Icelandic horse is a unique breed of small horses that came to Iceland with the first settlers from Norway 1100 years ago.
The Icelandic, as it is commonly referred to, is known for being sure-footed and able to cross rough terrain. It displays two gaits in addition to the typical walk, trot, and gallop commonly displayed by other breeds. The first additional gait is a cotton-soft four-beat lateral ambling gait called tölt.
Tölt is known for its acceleration and speed, it is also very comfortable for the rider and the ground-covering.
Weight limit is 90 to 100 kg (200 lb to 220 lb) depending on horse and riders' experience. We have couple of bigger geldings, who can carry a rider up to 110 kg (240 lb). If you have bigger or heavier riders in your group, please let us know, so we can arrange horses beforehand.
During winter time, please bring warm clothing, especially for children.
