Places to Visit in the Country

Here is a list of some beautiful places to visit in the Countryside of England

Image - Bodiam Castle
Place
Bodiam Castle
Joshua:This castle was built to protect the South East Coast from the French and when you first arrive you can really see that in its architecture. Although today it is just ruins it is still truly beautiful, being surrounded by a stunning moat and gardens. So for an afternoon of beauty and history we would recommend a visit here! It has been owned by the National Trust since 1925 so have a look at their website for opening times and prices.

Joshua:This is a really interesting place to visit because you get to learn so much about Sir Winston Churchill who lived there for over 40years! See the artwork he loved and the books he read as well as his desk. You can also explore the rose gardens, the lake and the kitchen garden. Then you can go and discover the looped trails in the woodland and have a picnic 😊 this is a fun day out especially when the sun is shining!

Joshua:This is a beautiful 14th century moated Manor House that is around 700 years old. There is available a free guided tour which we would recommend if you would love to know the history and also the staff and volunteers are ready to help and they have a good knowledge of the place. Have a wonder around the beautiful gardens and courtyard, then check out the amazing Tudor painted ceiling and if you love dogs make sure you see the grade 1 listed dog kennel! If you are not a National trust member you will need to pay for the car park and admission fee so check out their website.

Place
National Trust - Knole
Joshua:Here at Knole Park it is free to explore the grounds and the woodlands which are beautiful and you might get a chance to spot some of the 450 wild deers that run free here which would be amazing! We have spent many times here going for long walks with our friends and you can even bring a picnic and enjoy some games together . If you wanted to visit the house which they say is one of the country’s most exceptional historic houses then that will be £11.30 for entry. We have not done this yet but hope to on our next visit ☺️

Joshua:We loved exploring this beautiful castle and it’s very English picturesque surroundings. Someone said that when you go down to the castle with the moat, there is something magical about it and we would have to agree! This is a good place to visit at different times of the year as well as the garden changes with the seasons. Then enjoy a yummy light lunch at the lovely tearoom before seeing what the shop has to offer. It’s good to keep in mind though that entry to the house is timed so you may want to factor this in when planning your visit!

Image - Hever Castle & Gardens
Place
Hever Castle & Gardens
Joshua:This was where the second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I grew up.... Anne Boleyn. This beautiful double moated castle is steeped with history which you can get information about from the guide book and audio tours that are available when you arrive. There are also all kinds of gardens that you can freely explore from rose, Tudor gardens and topiary. They have two mazes, yew maze and splashing water maze. Certain times of the year you can enjoy any thing from special gardening events and jousting or just enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake in the tearoom. so really whatever it is you enjoy, you will find it here at Hever castle!

Place
Sissinghurst Castle Garden
Joshua:You could visit here at anytime of the year and wouldn’t be disappointed as it really is beautiful. The tower is also really interesting and if your wondering if it’s worth the climb, it is for sure Because you get such a wonderful view of the gardens. As mentioned about the other National Trust places that have very friendly and helpful volunteers, sissinghurst castle is no different, and they can even take you on a tour of the white cottage where Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicholson lived.

London | Our Favourite Places

This is a list of places we love to visit in London for various reasons. Most are places you can grab a bite to eat or a drink and really adds to any day in London.

Image - Sky Garden
Place
Sky Garden
Joshua:This is a great place to finish off your day in London with a fantastic cocktail and amazing views of London! What’s brilliant about this, is entry is free, but due to it being so popular you will need to book a time slot before you go! We went here with some friends and it was so fun, you can’t beat having a cocktail surrounded by nature whilst being warm! 😊and in such a classy atmosphere.

Image - The Criterion Theatre
Place
The Criterion Theatre
Joshua:At Piccadilly Circus is this amazing, beautifully decorated old fashioned Theatre. We saw 'The 39 Steps' here and loved it, although that’s not on now we would definitely recommend this theatre to see a show for a great atmosphere and genuine London feel! And the location of Piccadilly makes even more special as you come out at night.

Image - Cafe de Nata
Place
Cafe de Nata
Joshua:If your tired from all your walking and need a break, then we would recommend this cafe. They say that the Pastel de Nata or Naughty Nata, as us brits call it (custard tart) is the King of Portuguese pastries, and we can see why! Here you can get many different flavours made in the traditional Portuguese way but we still love the classic best. Choose your flavour, from Chocolate to blueberry or apple and cinnamon and enjoy it with a coffee, then you will be ready to head back out and explore.

Place
Wok To Walk
Joshua:If your busy exploring London and don’t fancy a long sit down meal, you will love this place as much as we do. You can make your own Asian recipe and they cook it for you the way you want it and it’s all fresh. Josh and I often have noodles with beef and veg with hot chilli sauce 😋 but of course there are lots of options. Then we grab our order and chopsticks and continue seeing the sights. (There are several of these around London)

Image - Greenwich Market
Place
Greenwich Market
Joshua:This is London’s only historic market set in a World Heritage Site. It is fun, colourful and has so much to see, from antiques, fashion, boutique shops, art and amazing jewellery. It also has some of the most delicious street food we have enjoyed! It offers Thai, Brazilian, Portuguese, Italian, British, Mexican and that’s just to name a few. And as it’s London you may get some rain, so this is a great place for those days as it’s completely undercover 👍🏻 Josh and I have been to this market many times and still love it!

Image - Bierschenke Beerhall
Place
Bierschenke Beerhall
Joshua:It’s so interesting being in London because quite often while wondering the streets, you can stumble across a place that transforms you somewhere else. And that is certainly the case with Bierschenke, London’s only authentic Munich Beerhall. As you enter you are given a true feel of Germany, with the staff being dressed in Dirndl and Lederhosen. It has an amazing selection of German beer and delicious food and the atmosphere is awesome. If you go on Saturday night you will also get to enjoy a Bavarian oompah band who bring the place a live, so why not make it part of your plan and pop by for a currywurst and Stein 😋

Place
The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town
Joshua:You can only get to this little hidden bar by going through a fridge, yes that’s right a fridge at The Breakfast Club on Bishopsgate. You step inside and head downstairs to a tiny basement that has a cosy decor and is dimly lit, and you instantly feel chilled because of the friendly service, amazing cocktails and wonderful atmosphere! There are also no clocks here so it’s the perfect place to lazy away time with friends 😊

Image - Gordon's Wine Bar
Place
Gordon's Wine Bar
Joshua:Gordon’s is the oldest wine bar in London, and if you're like us and love great wine and yummy cheese this is the place for you. Not only does it offer both of those, but also the atmosphere is something special as it it set in a old wine cellar (mind your head in can be low in places). While you sit and enjoy your wine and cheese by candlelight, you can feel the rumbles of the trains going underneath. And because it was built in 1890 you can imagine the history it has. This gives you a true taste of London in olden times! Entrance is down the side and down the little stairs.
