Joshua:This castle was built to protect the South East Coast from the French and when you first arrive you can really see that in its architecture. Although today it is just ruins it is still truly beautiful, being surrounded by a stunning moat and gardens. So for an afternoon of beauty and history we would recommend a visit here! It has been owned by the National Trust since 1925 so have a look at their website for opening times and prices.

Joshua:This is a really interesting place to visit because you get to learn so much about Sir Winston Churchill who lived there for over 40years! See the artwork he loved and the books he read as well as his desk. You can also explore the rose gardens, the lake and the kitchen garden. Then you can go and discover the looped trails in the woodland and have a picnic 😊 this is a fun day out especially when the sun is shining!

Joshua:This is a beautiful 14th century moated Manor House that is around 700 years old. There is available a free guided tour which we would recommend if you would love to know the history and also the staff and volunteers are ready to help and they have a good knowledge of the place. Have a wonder around the beautiful gardens and courtyard, then check out the amazing Tudor painted ceiling and if you love dogs make sure you see the grade 1 listed dog kennel! If you are not a National trust member you will need to pay for the car park and admission fee so check out their website.

Joshua:Here at Knole Park it is free to explore the grounds and the woodlands which are beautiful and you might get a chance to spot some of the 450 wild deers that run free here which would be amazing! We have spent many times here going for long walks with our friends and you can even bring a picnic and enjoy some games together . If you wanted to visit the house which they say is one of the country’s most exceptional historic houses then that will be £11.30 for entry. We have not done this yet but hope to on our next visit ☺️

Joshua:We loved exploring this beautiful castle and it’s very English picturesque surroundings. Someone said that when you go down to the castle with the moat, there is something magical about it and we would have to agree! This is a good place to visit at different times of the year as well as the garden changes with the seasons. Then enjoy a yummy light lunch at the lovely tearoom before seeing what the shop has to offer. It’s good to keep in mind though that entry to the house is timed so you may want to factor this in when planning your visit!

Joshua:This was where the second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I grew up.... Anne Boleyn. This beautiful double moated castle is steeped with history which you can get information about from the guide book and audio tours that are available when you arrive. There are also all kinds of gardens that you can freely explore from rose, Tudor gardens and topiary. They have two mazes, yew maze and splashing water maze. Certain times of the year you can enjoy any thing from special gardening events and jousting or just enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake in the tearoom. so really whatever it is you enjoy, you will find it here at Hever castle!

Joshua:You could visit here at anytime of the year and wouldn’t be disappointed as it really is beautiful. The tower is also really interesting and if your wondering if it’s worth the climb, it is for sure Because you get such a wonderful view of the gardens. As mentioned about the other National Trust places that have very friendly and helpful volunteers, sissinghurst castle is no different, and they can even take you on a tour of the white cottage where Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicholson lived.
