This tour will take you through the war history of the city of Dubrovnik, a city that has frequently been under attack and siege. The main focus of this tour will be the most recent 1991 – 1995 homeland war, and the effect it has had on the people and city of Dubrovnik.
When looking at Dubrovnik one can only imagine peace and prosperity. However the history of the city has been much different, and darker. This tour intends to show you the violent and brutal terrors the city has had to endure throughout the years, and what effects these wars and conflicts have had on the people, and the town itself.
The tour will briefly give historical context of the French siege and loss of the Ragusa Republics independence, then its incorporation into the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the bloodshed experienced in both world wars.
The focus of the tour however will be the most recent Homeland War, which occurred following the 1991 breakup of Yugoslavia. The tour gives you insight into the horrors of war, while showing the bright light of the chance at a better and more peaceful future.
