As a local I would recommend the Indian restaurant on Skólabrú, it is called Gandhi and it is VERY good - even if you usually don't like indian food, this is a great place. Otherwise I can recommend the restaurant Potturinn og pannan on Brautarholt, there everyone will find something and it is not very pricy (like many other restaurants).
Also, go for a swim in Árbæjarlaug, I almost grew up in this swimming pool!
