Addi seemed to be in step with Travelade from the get go. He has an extreme flair for the creative and likes to imbue his work with a playfulness that turns the ordinary into the exciting. He studied art and multi-media design and has a highly advanced skill set in animation. Over the past 5 years he has taken the role of director or art director of commercials and music videos and continues to use his eye for design and motion in various projects.
Most memorable travel moment to date: Getting completely lost in Thailand. (We feel like there’s more to this story, but that’s all we got)
Andri oversees the strategic development and global growth strategy of Travelade. He leads the team with a hands-on approach, keeping the vision of the company top-of-mind and works to drive revenue growth. He co-founded and served as CEO for Icelandic Start-ups where he continues to incubate and foster the growth of start-up culture in Iceland. Prior to Travelade, Andri served as Product Lead at LinkedIn in San Francisco. He received his MBA from Stanford and his BSc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Iceland.
Most memorable travel moment to date: Being evacuated by helicopter down Aconcagua in Argentina.
Alicja joined Travelade to build a dynamic and wide-reaching community to support the brand. She is hands on in developing programs that support branding, partnership development, content development, events and influencer engagement. She brings 5 years experience in marketing, communications working for Helly Hansen and 5 years in team management at Feathers Inc. She received her MA in International Relations from Queen Mary University of London and BA in Rhetoric from Willamette University.
Most memorable travel moment to date: Sleeping in a treehouse in the Amazon jungle, 70ft above ground only to be woken by monkeys the following morning who were swinging all about and playing in the rain.
Balli creates elegant, fun and intuitive designs for Travelade. Using his knowledge in experience-oriented design, illustration and interactive media, Balli aims to strike that perfect balance between fashion and function. He built his portfolio as Product Designer and Project manager at Ja.is, where he started as a UX and Graphic Design intern. He last served as Designer at Kosmos & Kaos, designing websites for global companies such as Arion Banki and Vodafone.
Most Memorable Travel Experience to Date: Going Interrailing for 1 month with his girlfriend. They traveled through Europe across 8 countries…he is reluctant to call out a specific moment as the entire experience was truly unforgettable.
Bjartur joined Travelade to create a game that represents the brand and that engages our users in fun and different ways. He uses his skills and passion for games to help create a gaming strategy for Travelade’s Ultimate Travel Guide Challenge. Currently, Bjartur is pursuing a double Masters at Utrecht University in the Netherlands; one in Artificial Intelligence and the other in Game and Media Technology…a perfect blend of his two passions…problem solving and games. He graduated with a BSc in Computer Science from Reykjavik University.
Most Memorable Travel Experience to Date: Competing at Norway Cup’s U16 Soccer Tournament. Despite getting knocked out in the quarterfinals, they still placed 5th out of 188 teams.
As COO, Bjork’s main focus is to implement business operations, plans and procedures to drive revenue and support the global growth strategy. She brings to the Travelade team her passion for the tourism industry and her laser focus on strategic growth planning and with her pioneering spirit, she continuously motivates the team to be innovative and daring. Bjork brings 14 years of experience in the travel industry as well as amassing experience in event management and corporate banking. She received her BSc in Economics from the University of Iceland.
Most memorable travel moment to date: A 5 day backcountry sailboat tour in Iceland where she skinned, hiked, skied and sailed from one fjord to the next.
Hakon’s purpose at Travelade is to research and implement recommendation systems technology that will help Travelade users discover content suited to their interests that they might have otherwise missed. This work forms the basis for his thesis at the University of Reykjavik, where he is currently in working towards his MSc in Computer Science. Hakon is a mathematician at heart with a true passion for real analysis and the theory of computation and received his BSc in Mathematics from the University of Iceland.
Most memorable travel moment to date: Being utterly astounded after having first set eyes on the Palace of Versailles. The sheer scale and majesty were unexpected and a true wonder that defies description.
Hlodver oversees and actively participates across all technology platforms which includes creative engineering, prototyping, system architecture and software design and development. He esteems 2 tenants, the importance of local insight, and that the whole travel experience…from idea to execution…should be memorable, thus leads his team of designers and developers to carry though this vision. Prior to Travelade, Hlodver served as CTO of Ja.is, where he spearheaded dev teams through major digital transformation projects including web/mobile apps, APIs, and map/street view functions. He received his BSc in Software Engineering from the University of Iceland and has a total of 15 years experience in web and mobile development.
Most memorable travel moment to date: Riding into the sunset on a jet ski in Key West (an experience he wouldn’t have missed had it not been for the local tip).
A jack of all trades here at Travelade, Hordur contributes in many different ways to the product, but creating the best possible user experience is his ultimate goal. He brings life to the designers’ prototypes by implementing them in a fashion that exceeds expectations of software usability and quality. Hörður injects creativity into software development and pursues new technologies and skill sets that might serve to enhance the users’ experiences. Before Travelade, he served as the UX Lead and Software Developer at CrankWheel and preceding, interned as UX Specialist at Fraunhofer in Washington D.C. He graduated with his BSc in Computer Science from the University of Reykjavik.
Most Memorable Travel Experience to Date: Being the only 2 people onsite as he and his girlfriend descended into one of the Geiza Pyramids.
Nina ensures that Travelade is brimming with local expert knowledge so that travelers are fully informed as they plan their trips. She believes that planning is part of the whole travel experience and thus creates and curates content to inspire Travelade users. Nina serves as chief writer herself in addition to editing works of contributing local experts from across the globe. She received her BA in Music from Iceland Academy of Arts and an MA in Publishing and Editorship from the University of Iceland where she is now currently pursuing a BA in Law.
Most Memorable Travel Experience to Date: Joining what she was told was a tour to a monastery in Montenegro but finding herself instead as the sole non-Russian speaking atheist on an Orthodox Christian pilgrimage.
Thorey is a key member of the development team where code-by-code, she builds the Travelade website. This is her first job since graduating with her BSc in Software Engineering from Reykjavik University where she fell into Computer Science by chance, but took to it like a fish in water, landing herself on the Dean’s List twice after switching into this major. Being an avid traveller and someone who simply gets s*** done, Thorey was a natural fit for Travelade and has proven herself a key member of the team.
Most Memorable Travel Experience to Date: Trekking to Everest Basecamp carrying all the possessions she needed for a year of travel in Asia, and then meeting with people that were about to attempt to summit Everest.
